The Boards of Appeal reassess oral proceedings measures adopted due to the pandemic
The Boards of Appeal have taken the time to reevaluate some of the measures they had introduced early on in the global health crisis. Please note that hese measures differ from those decided for oral proceedings before examination and opposition divisions.
- Parties have to request a change of date if they are not able to attend oral proceedings for which they have been summoned.
- Oral proceedings before the Boards of Appeal are normally held at their premises in Haar (close to Munich). Due to a limited number of suitable rooms available, some oral proceedings might have to take place in the Isar building in Munich instead. Please note that parties will not be sent a communication if a venue or starting time has been changed. It is the responsibility of the parties themselves to regularly check the online calendar.
- Due to the need for social distancing, attendance at oral proceedings is limited to a maximum of two people per party. Should a party wish to bring extra representatives, a reasoned request should be submitted in advance of the oral proceedings.
- Only if the parties concerned agree, oral proceedings before the Boards of Appeal can now also be conducted using videoconferencing (VICO) technology.
